Disable Search Indexing on Windows 8.1 and Windows 8

Windows Search Indexing feature scans the location in order to index all the contained items. Although it significantly speeds up the search process, it may consume significant system resources. To disable it:

  • Press Windows Key + R > Type "services.msc" and press Enter. > Find Windows Search from the list > Press Right click and Properties > Startup type > Disable from the drop down menu.
  • You can also disable indexing of your Disk from Right click on disk and click Properties > Uncheck "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties"
